ICSID: Matthias Scherer the fifth LALIVE partner with ICSID arbitrator appointment

16 July 2013

Matthias Scherer has recently been nominated as arbitrator in an ICSID arbitration to hear a €200 million claim against Croatia filed by Austrian national Georg Gavrilovic and the Croatian meat-processing plant that carries his family name. With Professor Pierre Lalive, Michael E Schneider, Teresa Giovannini, and Veijo Heiskanen, this appointment brings LALIVE’s headcount at ICSID to five. No other law firm boasts a similar depth spanning several generations of arbitrators.

LALIVE also represents numerous States and investors in their investment disputes before ICSID and in ad hoc arbitration proceedings either under Bilateral Investment Treaties or international contracts. The current portfolio of the firm (cases as counsel or arbitrator) comprises 16 state investor disputes including 11 under the ICSID Rules for a total value of USD 7 billion.
