LALIVE’s construction practice: two partners again recognized as leaders in the field by the Who’s Legal’s international ranking (February 2013)

25 February 2013

Alongside twelve other LALIVE nominees in several different areas of practice, Michael E. Schneider and Matthias Scherer were recognised in Who’s Who Legal’s first country report on Switzerland as leading lawyers in the field of construction. Both were also recommended for international arbitration, and were praised in the editorial for their work in construction-related arbitration and dispute resolution. In addition, Matthias Scherer was also ranked for his expertise in the energy sector.

The editorial reports that LALIVE “has built up a considerable name among regional and international clients for its ‘wide-ranging experience'” in the field of construction and real estate.  Recent examples include representing a subsidiary of an international oil major in a USD 700 million dispute involving the construction of a gas processing plant, and representing a Middle-Eastern State agency in a USD 250 million dispute concerning a major infrastructure project.

The firm also regularly advises clients from all around the world on large and complex transactions relating to a broad range of construction and infrastructure projects, including EPC and turnkey contracts, joint venture and consortia agreements, privatisation agreements, project development, and public procurement.  For example, the firm recently advised Middle-Eastern State-owned entities in respect of the design, development, engineering, procurement, construction, financing, ownership and operation of a more than USD 1.2 billion polysilicon plant.  It also advised a European contractor on the preparation of a tender for, and the negotiation of, a USD 140 million contract for the construction of railway lines.
