Bernd Ehle appointed to UNIDROIT-FIDIC Working Group

LALIVE is pleased to announce that Partner Bernd Ehle has been appointed as an expert member of the UNIDROIT-FIDIC Working Group on International Principles for Construction and Engineering Contracts. The Working Group held its first session in Rome from 26 to 28 October 2026.

The Working Group brings together experts from different legal traditions and professional backgrounds to develop international principles for construction and engineering contracts. The joint project of UNIDROIT and FIDIC aims to develop a soft-law instrument that will supplement the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts by addressing the particular features of construction and engineering contracts. It is intended to provide practical guidance to contracting parties, lawyers, courts, arbitral tribunals and legislators across jurisdictions.

On his appointment, Bernd said: “I am honoured to join the UNIDROIT-FIDIC Working Group and to contribute to this important international project. My appointment is also a testament to LALIVE’s long tradition and experience in both construction matters and comparative law. I believe the resulting principles have the potential to become a very useful practical tool for parties, practitioners and decision-makers dealing with construction and engineering contracts across different legal systems. I very much look forward to working with the esteemed members of the Working Group and playing a part in the development of these principles.”

UNIDROIT (International Institute for the Unification of Private Law), established in 1926 and based in Rome, is an independent intergovernmental organisation that promotes the harmonisation and modernisation of private and commercial law across jurisdictions, notably through instruments such as the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts. FIDIC (International Federation of Consulting Engineers), established in 1913, is an international organisation representing the consulting engineering industry, best known for developing widely used standard forms of contract for international construction and infrastructure projects, including mechanisms for dispute avoidance and resolution.

Further information on the project is available on the UNIDROIT website.
