LALIVE again ranked among the top firms in international arbitration worldwide (13th in GAR 30 Survey – Global Arbitration Review)

LALIVE has again been ranked among the thirty most prestigious specialist arbitration firms worldwide identified by Global Arbitration Review. Specifically the firm has been ranked 13th in the GAR 30 survey, behind large UK/US law firms operating through several offices worldwide, and ahead of any other firm in continental Europe.

The ranking is based on quantitative and qualitative criteria including the number of pending arbitration cases (as at September 2011, LALIVE had 38 as counsel, including 5 investment treaty cases, and 65 as arbitrators), the value of the firm’s case portfolio (in excess of USD11 billion), the number of lawyers ranked in the Who’s Who of International Arbitration, itself based on a peer review (six partners ranked, LALIVE being in the top seven firms worldwide with also the highest number in any civil law jurisdiction).

In its GAR 30 editorial report, GAR highlighted LALIVE’s “huge reputation in the field”, noting that “the firm continues to rule the roost in Switzerland, with arguably the largest team of full-time arbitration specialists out of any Swiss firm” although “in terms of strategy, the firm prioritises global cases”, and has a strong tradition of representing States in international arbitration proceedings and in public international law generally. GAR noted that LALIVE, “one of the oldest arbitration practices in the world’, has “assembled a multinational, multilingual team of lawyers, similar to those found at Shearman & Sterling and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, where in fact many Lalive lawyers trained.”
