LALIVE adds partner disputes expertise in London with latest hire

LALIVE is delighted to announce the appointment of Genevieve Poirier as a partner based in our London office, LALIVE (London) LLP. Genevieve, an arbitration specialist, joins the firm from Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom. Her recruitment is the latest step in LALIVE’s commitment to the strategically important London market, following its launch in the UK in 2018.

Genevieve’s experience covers a broad range of commercial matters, including cross-border disputes in the telecommunications, oil and gas, insurance, shipping and financial services sectors, as well as shareholder disputes. An Irish and Canadian national who initially trained in New Zealand, and a Solicitor Advocate with rights of audience before the English High Court, Genevieve has been recognised as a Future Leader by Who’s Who Arbitration and as a key individual in Legal 500.

Her career highlights include successfully representing NTT DOCOMO, Japan’s largest telecommunications company, in an LCIA arbitration against Tata Sons under an Indian law shareholders agreement. NTT DOCOMO was awarded US$1.2 billion in damages.

Genevieve Poirier comments: “I am incredibly excited to join such a dynamic and well-respected firm and contribute to the rapid growth of the LALIVE London office alongside the excellent team already there.”

LALIVE launched in London in 2018, led by partners Marc Veit and Timothy Foden, who joined the firm earlier in 2018 from Quinn Emmanuel. In 2020, the team moved to larger offices on Cloak Lane EC4 coinciding with the partner promotion and relocation from Switzerland of US/French national Lorraine de Germiny. With Genevieve’s appointment, the office now numbers four partners and 14 associates as of 1 September.

Domitille Baizeau, LALIVE Geneva partner and chair of the firm’s Management Board, comments: “We are absolutely delighted that Genevieve has chosen to join LALIVE. Her disputes focus, international experience and English law expertise fit perfectly with our own practice and plan to continue growing in London as a strategic market. This is an exciting development for the firm.”
