LALIVE provides strong support to the Graduate Institute’s MIDS programme
25 September 2019Building on its strong relationship with the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies and the University of Geneva, LALIVE is proud to support the Graduate Institute’s MIDS- Geneva LL.M. in International Dispute Settlement. Starting this year, the firm provides a full scholarship, covering the full tuition fees and living expenses of one student for the duration of the one year programme. In addition, the firm will offer a half-day seminar on the practice of international arbitration, with a particular focus on commercial arbitration proceedings. Through this, the firm aims to provide practical training to students wishing to pursue a career this field of law, including by spending time with LALIVE partners and counsel, who will offer first-hand experience and advice.
As part of its ongoing commitment to support the MIDS programme, the firm also offers an average of five internship positions to MIDS students for a duration of six months, working on the firm’s international commercial and investment treaty arbitration cases. Over the years, a number of these interns have joined the firm as associates. LALIVE currently counts ten lawyers, including four partners, who trained at the Graduate Institute, nine of them practicing exclusively in international arbitration.
Speaking at the 2019-20 MIDS graduation ceremony recently, LALIVE partner Domitille Baizeau highlighted, “LALIVE has had strong links with the Graduate Institute for many years, going back to the chair of late Professor Pierre Lalive, in more recent years through the joint organisation of the yearly LALIVE lecture and through our internship programme, almost since the commencement of the MIDS (…) this has happened because the Graduate Institute has always been an academic institution, and the MIDS a course, of outstanding international reputation”.
