We know that we are only as good as our people, so development of our lawyers is a high priority at LALIVE. We provide the following to ensure that our lawyers reach their full potential:

  • Early exposure to important work such as drafting, managing cases, and oral advocacy, earlier than many other equivalent firms (particularly in arbitration).
  • Daily learning and direct feedback from ‘hands-on’ partners as you work closely with them on cases – not just for them.
  • Focused annual training programmes in each Practice Group. We also teach the ‘business of law’ – not just ‘the law’.
  • Active focus groups in specialist areas, giving you the opportunity to deepen your expertise, and to share and learn from your peers, more experienced colleagues, and partners.
  • Partners work with you to provide the feedback and support you need to progress. Formal annual reviews are always conducted by two partners; and under our established counsel mentoring programme each counsel is allocated two partners to guide them.
  • Empowering you with early business development responsibilities, together with partners’ expert guidance. All lawyers at all levels are given personal business development budgets. These enable junior lawyers to enhance their learning and networks, at conferences for example. More senior lawyers will develop and implement formal strategic business plans with partner input.
